Morocco's growing pool of young talent in European football has received another boost, with Anderlecht defender Kaïs Barry reportedly choosing the Atlas Lions for his senior international career.
According to Moroccan sports newspaper Al Mountakhab, the 20-year-old center-back has opted for Morocco despite having represented Belgium at youth level and also being eligible to play for Ivory Coast.
A Proud Footballing Heritage
Barry comes from a remarkable footballing family and carries Belgian, Ivorian, and Moroccan roots.
He is the son of former Ivory Coast international goalkeeper Boubacar "Copa" Barry, who played a key role in the Elephants' historic 2015 Africa Cup of Nations triumph.
Now, Kaïs has the opportunity to begin writing his own international story, potentially following a different path with the Moroccan national team.
Rising Through Anderlecht
Barry developed through Anderlecht's renowned youth academy after joining the club from Lokeren.
He signed his first professional contract with the Belgian giants in 2023 before renewing his agreement, which currently runs until June 2027.
The young defender has also recently moved closer to the first-team environment, continuing his development at one of Belgium's most prestigious clubs.
Morocco Wins Another Young Talent
Despite his previous appearances for Belgium's youth teams, Barry has reportedly decided to pursue his senior international future with Morocco.
His decision comes as the Royal Moroccan Football Federation continues to monitor talented players of Moroccan heritage developing across Europe's major football academies and leagues.
For the Atlas Lions, the potential addition of a young center-back developing at Anderlecht represents another exciting option for the future.
A New Chapter Awaits
Barry would still need to complete the necessary procedures to change his international sporting affiliation before becoming eligible to represent Morocco at senior level.
For now, his immediate priority remains establishing himself with Anderlecht's first team and gaining valuable experience in senior football.
But as Morocco continues to build one of the most exciting generations in its history, Kaïs Barry's reported decision adds another promising name to the Atlas Lions' growing European talent pool.
The Moroccan football family continues to grow, with another young defender now potentially ready to carry the red and green into the next chapter.
