For Ayyoub Bouaddi, representing Morocco on football’s biggest stage was about far more than competing against the world’s best players. It was about national pride, the love of millions of supporters, and the unforgettable feeling of wearing the Atlas Lions shirt.
The 18-year-old midfielder opened up about his emotional connection to Morocco during an appearance on Uncut, the Premier League and EA SPORTS FC series, where he reflected on his first World Cup experience and shared his ambitions for the future.
A World Cup Experience Unlike Any Other
Having experienced the UEFA Champions League with Lille and now Manchester City, Bouaddi understands what it means to compete at the highest level of club football. Yet, according to the young midfielder, representing his country brought an entirely different feeling.
- “I was really proud to play for Morocco. I played in the Champions League with Lille, and now with Manchester City,” he explained.
While acknowledging the importance of both competitions, he made it clear that the World Cup holds a special place in his heart.
- “They are extraordinary competitions, but the World Cup is different. When I played in the World Cup with Morocco, I felt something unique. The smiles, the love and the pride of an entire nation… It was the greatest experience of my life.”
His words highlight the emotional connection between the Atlas Lions and their supporters, a bond that goes beyond results and individual achievements.
Bouaddi Already Has His Eyes on 2030
The young midfielder is not content with simply looking back on his first World Cup. With Morocco set to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, he already has another major ambition: representing the Atlas Lions once again.
Bouaddi expressed his desire to experience the tournament with Morocco, this time with the country playing a central role as one of its hosts.
- “Of course, I would love to take part in this competition again with Morocco. I simply want to make the Moroccan people proud of us, of the entire team, and give them even a small part of everything they have given us.”
He also recognised that the affection and support of Moroccan fans are difficult to repay.
- “Because we will never be able to give back everything they have given us. It is simply too much.”
Five World Cup Appearances to Remember
During the 2026 World Cup, Bouaddi featured in five matches for the Atlas Lions, facing Brazil, Scotland, the Netherlands, Canada and France.
Those appearances marked an important chapter in the young midfielder’s international career, giving him valuable experience on the biggest stage in world football.
At just 18, he already has another historic tournament in his sights. With the 2030 World Cup approaching, his ambition is clear: to continue representing Morocco and help deliver unforgettable moments for a nation whose support means everything to him.
For Bouaddi, the dream is not simply to play another World Cup. It is to make Morocco proud on home soil.
