Morocco’s historic reign over African futsal has been rewarded with another wave of individual and collective honours. After defeating Angola 5-2 in Wednesday’s final, the Atlas Lions claimed three of the four major awards at the 2026 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations, capping a remarkable tournament on home soil.

The ceremony took place in Rabat following a victory that secured Morocco’s fourth consecutive continental crown, extending their unprecedented run after previous titles in 2016, 2020 and 2024.

Under head coach Hicham Dguig, the hosts combined attacking firepower with defensive discipline, winning all five matches and reinforcing their status as Africa’s leading futsal nation.

Youssef Jouad Named Player of the Tournament

Youssef Jouad received the Best Player award after playing a decisive role in Morocco’s march towards another continental championship.

The Moroccan international made an immediate impression in the opening match, scoring a hat-trick in the Atlas Lions’ 4-0 victory over Algeria. His attacking contribution continued throughout the competition, helping Morocco maintain their momentum through the group stage and into the knockout rounds.

Jouad also delivered in the final against Angola. After Othmane El Idrissi opened the scoring, the Angolans briefly restored parity, but the Moroccan attacker responded in the 19th minute to put the hosts back in front.

His influence throughout the tournament underlined the quality and consistency that earned him one of the competition’s most prestigious individual honours.

For Morocco, his recognition provided another celebration in a campaign defined by collective excellence and standout individual performances.

Youssef Bensalam Rewards Morocco’s Defensive Excellence

Morocco’s success was not built on goals alone. Goalkeeper Youssef Bensalam was named Best Goalkeeper after an impressive tournament that highlighted the strength of the Atlas Lions’ defensive organisation.

Before the final, Morocco had kept four consecutive clean sheets, defeating Algeria, Zambia, Libya and Egypt by a combined score of 23-0.

Angola eventually became the first team to score against the hosts, finding the net twice in the final. However, those goals did little to diminish Morocco’s impressive defensive record or the goalkeeper’s contribution to their successful campaign.

Bensalam’s award recognised the importance of a defensive unit capable of providing a solid foundation for Morocco’s attacking ambitions.

Morocco Receive the Fair Play Award

The Atlas Lions also collected the Fair Play Award, completing their haul of three honours from the four available.

The recognition added another distinction to a campaign in which Morocco demonstrated their superiority across the competition, combining strong results with sportsmanship and discipline.

Angola claimed the remaining individual award through Joao Cambangula, who finished as the tournament’s top scorer with eight goals.

The distribution of the honours reflected the quality on display throughout the competition, with Morocco’s individual standouts rewarded alongside a strong Angolan performance.

Five Wins, 28 Goals and Another African Crown

Morocco’s awards haul was the culmination of a dominant campaign.

The Atlas Lions won all five matches, scoring 28 goals and conceding just twice. Their journey included commanding group-stage victories over Algeria, Zambia and Libya, followed by a 6-0 demolition of Egypt in the semi-finals.

The 5-2 victory over Angola then completed a perfect run to the title, confirming the team's ability to deliver when the stakes were highest.

The attacking output, combined with the defensive organisation that defined the earlier rounds, illustrated why Dguig’s side continues to set the standard in African futsal.

Morocco Extend Their Historic Futsal Dynasty

The latest championship further strengthened Morocco’s place in the history of the competition.

With titles in 2016, 2020, 2024 and 2026, the Atlas Lions became the first nation to win four consecutive editions of the Futsal AFCON. Their latest success also moved them ahead of Egypt, who previously claimed three continental titles in 1996, 2000 and 2004.

A decade after beginning their remarkable run, Morocco have transformed sustained success into a defining era for the national team.

The three awards in Rabat offered further evidence of the quality behind that achievement.

Jouad’s attacking influence, Bensalam’s goalkeeping excellence and the squad’s collective discipline all contributed to a campaign that will be remembered as another milestone in Moroccan sporting history.

Four consecutive African titles, three major awards and a team continuing to raise the bar, Morocco’s futsal dynasty shows no sign of slowing down.
