Former Moroccan international Adam Masina could be preparing for life beyond professional football, with Italian newspaper Il Corriere di Bologna reporting that the defender has retired and joined the technical staff of SCD Progresso Calcio.

The 32-year-old has been without a club since the winter following the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, in which he represented Morocco. According to the Italian publication, he has now taken up a new role as a technical collaborator at the Serie D side, allowing him to remain involved in football in a different capacity.

However, Masina has not officially confirmed his retirement, leaving some uncertainty over whether his playing career has definitively come to an end.

A New Chapter in Italian Football

The reported move to Progresso Calcio marks a potential turning point for a defender who spent much of his career competing in Italy and England.

Rather than stepping away from the sport entirely, Masina appears to have chosen to remain close to the game by joining a technical staff. His experience across several professional leagues could provide valuable insight as he begins exploring a role beyond the pitch.

Il Corriere di Bologna described the retirement news as unexpected, particularly given that the Moroccan international had continued playing at a high level in recent seasons.

For now, the appointment at Progresso Calcio represents the clearest indication of his next step, even as the circumstances surrounding his playing future remain unconfirmed.

From Bologna to the Premier League

Born in Khouribga, Morocco, Masina began his professional journey with Bologna, signing his first professional contract with the Italian club in 2012.

He made his Serie B debut in 2014 and became part of the team that secured promotion to Serie A at the end of the 2014–15 season. Those early years helped establish him as a promising left-back in Italian football.

In 2018, he moved to Watford, where he competed in the Premier League until 2022. His time in England provided experience in one of Europe's most demanding competitions before he returned to Italy to join Udinese.

He later moved to Torino on loan before completing a permanent transfer to the Turin club in 2024.

A Career With the Atlas Lions

Masina also represented Morocco at international level, bringing his experience in European football to the Atlas Lions.

His involvement with the national team included the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, after which he reportedly became a free agent. Since then, he has not returned to competitive action, according to the reports surrounding his future.

If his retirement is confirmed, it would bring an end to a career that took him from Bologna's development system to the Premier League and back through Italy's top divisions.
